Sudden rise of Japanese yen

Why did Japanese yen rise today? I think its cause is 17% of Cabinet approval rate.

That rate shows Kishida Cabinet is coming into catastrophe, and currency market seems to be expecting another political leader of Japan. More correctly, great number of people believe Kishida's resignation and change to more competent leader. So, Japanese currency suddenly rose in currency market.

I found an interesting math movie

I found an interesting math movie on YouTube site. The movie explains in English how to calculate the area of a triangle inside a rectangle. By watching this video, you can learn or review an example of geometry and also train yourself to listen to practical English.

After 12 years of 2011 Disaster of North East Japan

On the same day of 12 years ago, huge scale of earthquake and tsunami hit the north-east area of Japan. Soon after that, 3 reactors of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant got into emergency.
Situations were much more serious than most of us had thought. Prime Minister at that time Naoto Kan confessed later, that it had seemed to become the destructed end of East Japan. But he was quite brave and had never-give-up mind. He scolded out loudly Masataka Shimizu who was Representative of Tokyo Electronic Power Company, after then M. Shimizu escaped into a hospital lying as if he was ill.
As to Naoto Kan, it is supposed that he was a incompetent politician until then. But since March 11th 2011 he completely changed and showed a splendid leadership. If he had not shifted from Nuclear power to renewable energy, Japan could have left behind also in the industry of renewable energy.

Today, after 12 years of that disaster, I pray for the victims of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami of North East Japan, and prey also for the victims all over the world who have been under hardship of wars and natural disasters.

Go on studying

Relieved time is so short that all of us are in struggle. Do not worry about the consequence, my juku-students. Go on studying until the last moment!

What is pandemic?

As the result of the course, Tokyo Olympics will be held next month for the profit of economic giants. Japanese prime minister Yoshihide Suga often says "safe and secure", and what does it mean?
As everyone knows, situation of the outbreak of COVID-19 is pandemic: it has been causing tragedy around the world. Millions of people died by this disease.

In recent situation of developed countries, with proceeding of vaccination, we have come to feel safe relatively. But in the developing countries, non-developed countries and poor countries, situations are completely different. So, if we hold Olympics and Paralympics in this summer, there is possibility that several variants of COVID (including new variants of Tokyo 2021) will be brought back to the nations of athletes and bring about new outbreaks in those countries.
Pandemic is never the matter of one country. It's the matter of whole world. Does Mr. Suga know about it? If he knows it and says "safe and secure Olympics", he must be responsible to the whole world. And of course, it is impossible!

Stop Tokyo Olympics! Stop it right now!

Imitating and repeating

One reason for that our English teaching has not succeeded in Japan is shortage of imitation learning and repeated training. It is never sufficient that a learner has managed to read English sentences with pronouncing not fluently. It is also insufficient that there are lots of words which the learner can not read, or the learner read English like Buddhist text reading (in Japanese style).
The first step for being accomplished in learning English is to repeatedly imitate what native speakers talk about, chatter over or read. I want to say that’s all, but there remains one matter: for the learner it is also necessary to understand basic components of English grammar. Especially, if he or she has not understood basic elements such as basic word orders or usage of verb “is” and auxiliary verb “does” in composing interrogative sentences, learning stops at that point. Also in the learning of grammar, repeated practice is necessary.
This school-year at our juku-school, we will make it one main instruction that learners practice English using eyes, ears and mouth together with writing English with hand.

No need to enforce people stay at home

Here I dare to write that there is no need to enforce people stay home even if the number of corona-infected people increase again.
Statistics have shown that in Japan both total case and death toll have been quite small compared to Europe and Americas... it seems miracle. Considering these figures, not so much worry is needed for having ordinary life both indoor and outdoor (except that we need to put masks on our mouths). Now people can hold farewell party and welcoming party of their school mates and colleagues; they have the right of enjoying flower-watching (hanami) together.

Nevertheless, if we hold Tokyo Olympics this year, situations will largely change. Even if 2021 Olympics is held without foreign spectators, it is terrible or even crazy idea to have the event under pandemic of COVID. Tokyo has huge population in its very small area, so if the outbreak of new variant happens it could spread quite quickly among millions of people.

Our government should consider people’s health and everyday living first, not considering Olympics first. Prime minister Yoshihide Suga, Tokyo's governor Yuriko Koike and JOC members must declare Give Up holding the Olympics; they can do that if they have high level of faculty for judging this quite difficult matter.
But now I am worrying about the faculty of Japanese politicians for judging and choosing right options... just like our ancestors failed to end Pacific War and caused millions of ordinary people to die in the period of 1944 to 1945.

English reading of Japanese students (re-post)

Why do Japanese students read English textbooks like Buddhist text-reading (in Japanese style). I think the main cause for that is in Japanese educational system.
English is, of course, a language just as Japanese or Chinese. So if we don't become able to either speak, write or read (understand) English, it can be pointed out that our English education has no meaning.
Nevertheless, our school-teaching system has been continuing almost one-way old (like worn-out clothes) style of teaching.
In Japan, students do not learn English for practical using (such as booking airline tickets, saving money in an account, or making friends with foreigners) but study English for getting more points in their examinations.
Besides, most examinations do not require students to speak or read English. Almost all that they have to do is studying their textbooks to write down answers in the examination papers, and it must be tedious work.

For the reasons above, I do make a conclusion, Japanese students read English like Buddhist text-reading.

Missing cell phone

This is a shame story, so I write in English not in Japanese.
Yesterday during the driving to a electronic store, I found that I hadn't kept my cell phone with me. But I was not so worried, thinking it would be in my house.
But the situation was different. The phone did not exist in anywhere in my house nor in my car. So, I drove back to all places that I dropped in on the day. As it was supposed, no information was gotten from all places.
I suspected that someone had stolen the phone that I dropped down by the chamber pot when I used the rest room in a super store. Actually GPS information, that I got from the cell phone company, showed it had been around there (but relatively in large area around the super store). So, I asked the cell phone company to make the phone unusable, and phoned also to the police about the missing of the cell phone.

But, fortunately (or unfortunately) the phone was dropped at the foot of rear seat; maybe it moved from the front seat and fell down from there, and then moved again during my driving.
Again I realized that having cell phone is stressful, and I made up my mind that I will never possess a smartphone. Only I need my cell phone to make a emergency call when I go out, or for the two-factor authentication when I purchase items via on line.
